Infrastructure Review
This service is typically called on when an environment has been installed by another party and the customer is experiencing performance issues or wishes simply to have confirmation that the environment has been correctly sized, installed and implemented (taking into account the scope of the user community and the size of the application implemented).
Regardless of the reason behind the request, the same activities are carried out and the results are compiled and reported in the same manner.
During an EPM Infrastructure Review the following components are assessed.
-
User Community
An interview process is followed to build an understanding of the scope and distribution of the user community
-
Network
An overview is made of the LAN/WAN and is checked to ensure that it meets the requirements of the products and the prospective use that the business will make of it
-
Server Park
A combination of automated and manual audit is carried out on the servers hosting the environment and checked against best practices
-
EPM Software Installation
A review of available documentation and actual servers is made and cross-checked along with a sanity-check against best-practices and software supplier recommendations
-
OS/Layered & third party component check
During the Server Park audit and EPM Software Installation check the OS settings, Layered Software (IIS/SQL/etc.) and third-party components (BEA, dynaSight, etc.) are checked for correct release levels, installation, etc.
Duration of this service is dependant upon the size of the implementation, but typically ranges from three to seven man-days in order to fully complete the data-collection, evaluation, reporting and presentation.
