Welcome to the 1st Infratects
Newsletter |
 |
 |
|
 |

The
last 12 months have been an interesting and busy time for us. Having
moved offices (to the Herculesplein), opened our APAC offices in Perth, Western
Australia and produced our first official Customer Stories Brochure and
refreshed our Company Profile, we haven't been short of things to do.
During the Customer Satisfaction program
we ran in 2008 a number of key points of improvement were identified that we
needed to address. Some of these points were partially addressed by the
previously mentioned activities, but we still had to:
- Deploy a new website (easier to manage
and keep fresh)
- Develop a periodical newsletter for our
clients (to keep them more informed of our progress)
-
Develop and deploy a customer portal to allow our contracted clients to log
support calls, access documentation and invoicing online in a secure
environment
Well, the new
website went live on Monday 22nd June, the newsletter is obviously in
production and the secure portal is expected by the Autumn of 2009.
We hope that you enjoy these
developments and find them useful, so your feedback is both welcome and greatly
appreciated.
We look forward
to producing this newsletter on a regular basis (once every two months) - and
that you, our clients, will let us know if it is as informative and useful as
we hope it will be.

RRDK's go

What do you do when your
company is split in two, and you need a financial reporting environment
for the entity that won't be inheriting the existing
environment?
Make a
phone call.
Well,
obviously it's not that simple, you need a budget as well, and approval from the
Management Team, but once you've got those, that's pretty much
it.
At least in OZ
Minerals case it was.
After deciding
that they needed a new financial reporting environment and that the
environment would be based on Oracle EPM Suite (to allow them to take
over the existing applications with minimal redevelopment
effort) they only had to deal with the question of how they
would host it, where they would host it, and how they would
be able to connect to it from both their Melbourne Headquarters and
their Western Australian mine sites at Golden Grove. All with
no impact or delay (needed to be operational within 2 weeks) and no clarity
regarding what part of the IT infrastructure and services would
be available for use in the new entity.
Thanks to the challenges faced by this
client situation, we've been able to expand our standard RRDK offering to
include dynamic PC-Datacenter VPN's on demand (alongside the traditional
SSL-VPN solution) and to ensure that regardless where you are located,
performance remains outstanding. (If it works for Australia - Europe it'll work
anywhere).
How did it all work
out? - We would rather let the client speak for themselves - regarding access
speed...
"As discussed this afternoon, the VPN
performance via the VPN and through the Portal are
‘magnificent’..."
..and regarding the back-end
performance...
"Saving data in the biggest calc form we have
in Excel Smartview NOW saves the data within 16 to 20 seconds vs the PREVIOUS
save time of 45minutes to 1 ½ hours..."
...on time (i.e. within 2 weeks) and on
budget.
For more information on how our RRDK
and Hosting solutions can be used to meet your business needs, just ask. We'll
find a way to make it work.

When is an HTTP Optimizer
useful? |
|
|
|
|
As a reseller, you may expect us to say always, but actually, an HTTP
Optimizer (depending on the type) is only really useful in two
situations:
- When
you have a large number of locations and users accessing your centralised EPM
environment
- When you have poor quality network links (or large distances)
between your end-users and your centralised EPM environment
Assuming that your user community makes
use of the web interfaces and Smartview client from their desktops, the
challenge facing most organisations is that for a relatively good end-user
experience, they need to budget for 256Kb of dedicated bandwidth per
user (assuming no optimisation is in place). For clients with
excellent WAN's and/or minimal user communities, this is obviously not an issue,
but for everyone else, there's a balancing act between whether it's cheaper to
upgrade WAN links or find an alternate solution. A good HTTP Optimizer will
give you a reduction of between 4x and 10x in the amount of data going over the
line.
Aside from this, you
need to consider what else an HTTP optimizer can do for you. Typically, you can
expect some form of load-balancing, the ability to "proxy" your
environment (acting as a step between the user and the environment - which is
useful for DR scenarios) and the ability to re-write content on the
fly.
We would, of course, be
happy to help you assess whether an HTTP Optimizer is the right choice for
you. |

Want to try out Oracle EPM v11
? |
|
|
|
|
So what's stopping
you?
Normally, the answer to
this is one of the following...
- We don't have a test
environment
- We don't have the time to migrate our
applications
- We don't have the expertise to do this
ourselves
- It would be too expensive to just try out (we'd
have to migrate directly)
Well, we thought about this and came to the conclusion that we could
do something about this.
Infratects V11 RRDK Offer
In partnership with our functional consulting partners, for a fixed
price of €10k, we will....
- Provide a secure
RRDK
- Take a copy of your existing production
application and the 10 most important reports
- Migrate it to
Oracle EPM v11
- Fix any minor issues encountered
- Provide you
with 4 weeks worth of access to the RRDK environment for up
to 5 key staff members to test and explore
- Allow you continued
use of the environment for a longer period at preferential
rates
So, if you'd
like to see what your most important application would look like in the latest
release of Oracle EPM Suite with almost no effort and at a fixed cost, you know
where to find us. |
